Episode Name: Out Of The Past
Series: Transformers Prime, Season 2
Rating: Four and Three-Fourth Spaceships
Mission Briefing:
Bulkhead's recovering from his Tex-En experience and injures, and Miko is basically Miss "Drill Sergeant" (Arcee even says she's acting like a drill sergeant in a way). Meanwhile, Arcee's mind is in the past.
Arcee meets up with Miko at a familiar grave-site... Cliffjumper's grave-site. In trying to help, Arcee tells the story of how she was captured by the Decepticons and how Cliffjumper became her partner... and how they got to Earth, though hindered by Starscream and the creator of the cordial physic patch, Shockwave.
It's going to be one interesting story...
Mission Report:
DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE BEGINNING!!!
That's what I have to say. The beginning had me all confused. I wasn't sure what the heck was going on. Was Starscream back as Second-In-Command somehow? And how did Arcee get captured? And how was Cliffjumper alive?!? Luckily, we learn pretty soon after the theme song that it's a flashback, but it had me too confused for enjoyment... that was a primary thing in keeping me from giving this episode a 5-Spaceship rating. So, my advice, stick to the episode even when the beginning has you totally confused.
Otherwise, it was a well-done story. Unluckily, I had read the story Arcee's flashback covered in a graphic novel, and they had changed it around. It made things less enjoyable, and a little more confusing. HOWEVER, the story they told here was still good and enjoyable. It was a good re-writing of the story, and did well with the episode.
The overall storyline was good and enjoyable. There were some minor glitches (like the classic "There's someone behind me, isn't there" [may have gotten exact quote wrong] scene didn't make greatest sense... I thought that the Vehicons had bought it, not that Shockwave was behind him!). And there were uncomfortable moments (the cordial physic patch scene, for example, which also had a glitch... they weren't exactly clear if they used the same technique for seeing the code as Bumblebee & Ratchet did in Sick Mind*; if not, how were they able to see the code Shockwave got?!?). But it was primarily a very good and enjoyable storyline.
And we get to see a classic character: Shockwave!!! I tip my hat off to the animators on this one... this Shockwave looks a ton like his 1980's counterpart!!! Now, it was still a Transformers Prime version, but the similarity was shocking! It was an extremely well-done job!
So, all in all, despite the very confusing beginning... this was a wonderful episode! One of the best in the series! Way to go, guys!
