Mission Report:
This is the three-parter that started it all. Cool, huh? And a nice thing is that my DVD allows me to watch them seamlessly, like a movie! Nice...!
The story needs some work. There were multiple story glitches. Most were minor. Like, Megatron somehow knew that this was Earth. Okay, now we've seen Beast Wars, so we could try to explain it by saying that Megatron's Spark was in his future... um... protoge (sp?), and the information somehow downloaded. Now, that's unlikely (but the best I got), and Beast Wars didn't exist back then. So, story glitch. There were quite a couple others, but, like I said, most were minor and just annoying, but there were some bigger ones (but not overly major).
A bigger glitch is more toward series-wise. During this three-parter, it's obvious that the Decept' army is bigger than the group we learn to know during the rest of Season 1 and 2. What happened to them? I'm happy they stuck to a smaller group, because I'm not the greatest with big crowd shows, but I'd still like to know!
To make up for this, the episodes were very enjoyable (like Megatron panicking!) and the action scenes were very well-done. This is what re-earned the extra Spaceship.
These episodes also includes one of my favorite Megatron lines. In the very end, when Starscream is targeting the (strangely, story glitch) defenseless Megatron, Megatron warns him, "Beware, Starscream! If you dispose of me, there will always be someone waiting to dispose of you!" How true! I've always enjoyed that line, because it's right, at least in the Decepticon world! LOL!
But this three-parter also has a scene in which I believe Starscream was right about something! He got in trouble for testing the Energon Cubes. Now, it sounds like the Energon Cubes have never been tested before. I actually think Starscream was right in testing the Energon Cubes. It's one of those things worth testing.
So, while this could have been done better, this was still a good way to start the Transformers mania that was to last for decades, and still continues!
